Dr. Robert J. Obermeyer

Let me see where do I start. Dr. Obermeyer was our second opinion Dr. and I can not say enough positive things about him. If you want an amazing Dr. that knows everything there is to know about the Nuss procedure then he is your guy. When having something like this done, specially to your child to me the most important thing is knowledge and experience. At CHKD they definitely have that. Dr. Obermeyer answered all my questions with ease helped us to feel more comfortable with the entire experience. While at our consultation Dr. Obermeyer felt that my sons chest would probably not look perfect because of the rotation of his sternum. We were all pleasantly surprised to find that he got the chest to look fantastic! Its perfect in my eyes! My son did so well that we were released on the 2nd day and off all pain meds by day 6. I don't think that would have been possible without the wisdom of Dr. Obermeyer. He believes in keeping it simple and I 100% believe that is what helped my son and his speedy recovery. We actually had a 7 hour drive home to Pennsylvania and Dr. Obermeyer made sure we had means to contact him in case of emergency. We are now 4 weeks post op and my son is doing fantastic couldn't have done it without Dr. Obermeyer and I would recommend him to anyone that is thinking about surgery well worth the drive. Thank you so much Dr. Obermeyer you are the best!!

From the moment I met Dr. Obermeyer on my son's first visit with him, I felt at ease with him. While my son on the other hand was just a wee bit queasy to the stomach and sweat dripping from his forward at the thought of having any type of surgery. Quickly, Dr. Obermeyer responded by offering him a drink and something to drink to comfort him, yet such a small kind gesture to display at the first office visit has remained consistent throughout the every visit before my son's surgery, his stay in the hospital, and to his aftercare. Dr, Obermeyer not only spoke to me, he spoke more to my son in the explanation of what was happening, what to expect, and what needed to be done. By doing this, he was able to ease my son's fear with his kindness, genuineness, and compassion over time with each visit. As a mother I couldn't be more grateful and amazed to watch my son's growth this past year. The day of my son's surgery, I watched doctor's come out and speak to parents in the waiting room with everyone else around and when Dr. Oberymeyer came out and took me aside in a separate room I have to admit I was a little scared, but what soon learned is that I had nothing to be scared of, Dr. Obermeyer who showed his professionalism and attention to me in regards to my son and I quietly in my head thanking him for that. What surprised me next was Dr. Obermeyer had told us that it would take some time before we would seen any results, but not only was I truly amazed at how my son's chest looked so was my son. My son told him 'thank you' that day. Words truly cannot describe the amazing care, genuine personality, awesome bedside manner, professionalism, expertise, and unexpected belief that a doctor can leave you with the feeling there really are some good ones in this world today. Like the previous post, I also agree that his degree in mechanical engineering does give him the perfect combination for being the perfect surgeon for this procedure. Because it wasn't about just putting the bars in, it was about what is right and what will work best not just for today but for tomorrow too. Don't get me wrong, my son also has to continue his part with his exercises after the procedure to really make it work and he knows that not by me just telling him but that he was made part of it by Dr. Obermeyer. I would like to conclude, for me as a mother, Dr. Obermeyer was a heaven sent guardian angel to watch over and protect my son throughout his procedure. I would highly recommend Dr. Obermeyer to any parent whose child needs this procedure. Thank you.
