Dr. Dawn Jaroszewski

I am the parent of a young man who had a Nuss procedure performed by Dr. J in June of 2013, shortly after his 15th birthday. Despite playing varsity soccer and running cross country, he had a Haller index of 5.75 and failed his initial stress test, so in addition to reaching the age where the cosmetic appearance has begun to bother him, it was starting to slow down his physical activity as well. We could have had the surgery done locally by a general surgeon, but after doing online research, I knew traveling to AZ for Dr. J to do the procedure was absolutely the right thing for us and well worth any additional work for travel. She and her team were knowledgeable, compassionate, and easy to work with. They took great care to put my son's (and mine!) mind at ease about what would be taking place. The only complication was having to stay in a hotel for his post-op time, as we had traveled out of state for the surgery. But even that hassle was well worth it in the end. My son is now one-month post having the bars removed, age 19, a freshman in college, and feels wonderful. He has never regretted having the surgery, even during the rough days post-op. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. J and the care she took of my son, or the wonderful job she did treating his pectus --- we are forever grateful!!

For the first time in my life, I have the self-confidence that I was lacking when I was growing up. I'm a married 58-year-old man with a 17 year old son. When he was born, I cut the umbilical cord and then made sure he did not have a pectus excavatum. How happy was I to see that my newborn was a healthy baby with a normal chest!

Dr. Jaroszewski by far is the BEST surgeon in the world, in my humble opinion. She made my chest look like a normal man's chest. My heart and lung function has been restored to normal. (In January I was about to die as my heart was in atrial fibrillation and was functioning only at 30%. ) HAH! I am going to have to live another 40 years just to enjoy the darn thing!!!

From the initial call to her office inquiring about the surgery 5 years ago, the pre-surgery evaluations, the actual bars-in surgery, recovery, and through bars out surgery, Dr J and her team were outstanding to work with. They are all supportive, knowledgable, and will go out of their way to help patients throughout the whole process. This is a life changing surgery and they provide the best care anyone could ask for.
Dr J is an industry leader perfecting the PE correction surgery with every operation by finding new ways to improve the bar insertion, enhance the repair result, and lessen patient pain in the days and weeks after surgery. You can tell from interactions with her that she is extremely passionate about her work, every one of her patients, and advancing her field. We are so very lucky to have her on the PE surgery and research side.
I just had the bars out 3 days ago, and her team was just as friendly, professional, and passionate as when the bars went in 4 years ago. At about the 3-month mark. Pain receded markedly around Week 4, and was able to ween off all medication at that point. I've been running for more than 6 weeks... just got up to the 4-mile mark recently. Have been doing pushups, bench press, chest fly machine,some ab workouts with little to no issue. My only remaining thing I want to do is swing a golf club again, but I am giving that a few more months to be safe. I can definitely feel a difference when I run or even climb a flight of stairs. Aside from the cosmesis that people often cite, my renewed physical condition has provided added psychological benefit that nothing is holding me back physically.

I had a relatively straightforward case and realize that everyone is different, but I know going with Dr. J ensured the best possible outcome. I am very glad I made the phone call I made this past January. Only regret is that I didn't get this done earlier in life.

This surgeon gave me my life back. Two years prior to visiting her office I had underwent my first Nuss procedure under another surgeon. It was an absolute nightmare. She placed an implant which was profoundly too large in a location no where near my actual deformity She would not acknowledge any type of mistake in her work It was my own intuition that even allowed me to find someone who could help me, as the first surgeon attempted to convince me everything looked great. I was on pain narcotics the entire time I sought a second surgeon from the resulting over-sized implant, that actually caused Pectus carnitum.

Finding Dr. Dawn Jaroszewski gave me my life back. She took out the old implant (17") an placed two 14" bars in the actual location of my P.E. She is exceptionally talented and did for me what other surgeons were afraid to do. The entire experience was extremely pleasant. Between her skills, her surgical teams abilities, and the outstanding hospital stay, there is nothing more a person could ask for.
