The Best Nuss Surgeon In North America.

I had originally received the Nuss Procedure from an incompetent surgeon in San Diego who botched my first surgery. My insurance company forced me to go to a second rate Nuss surgeon who didn't know what he was doing and placed a Nuss bar in me that did absolutely nothing. In fact it was placed so poorly that it was pressing against my heart and lungs and caused scar tissue to form because of it. So after getting the first botched surgery I went to got a second opinion from Dr. LoSasso with whom I had originally requested to see for my first surgery, (but my crap insurance sent me to the other guy instead). After consulting with Dr. LoSasso he agreed that I would need to get the Nuss Procedure done again by him properly and this time, with 2 bars because of the severity of my Pectus and older age. After the second surgery the results have been night and day. I feel like a completely different person. Before the second surgery it felt like there was a weight on my chest and I would have difficulty breathing, shortness of breathe and chest pains. Now, I feel as if I am breathing for the first time again and have way more energy than I did before having the second surgery by Dr. LoSasso. Not to mention my chest is perfectly flat and I no longer dread taking off my shirt in public places. I really can't thank Dr. LoSasso and his awesome staff enough for all of their help through this extremely difficult time in my life. All I wish is that anyone looking to get the Nuss Procedure please consult with Dr. LoSasso first. You will not be disappointed with the results! Thanks again for everything Dr. LoSasso you are a lifesaver. Literally.

Fantastic Doctor!

I am coming up on my 51st birthday and had the Nuss procedure performed by Dr. LoSasso in March of 2016. The results are amazing! I had a very deep PE as evidenced by my 7.6 Haller Index. I met with Dr. LoSasso three times before having the actual surgery (once by Skype and twice in-person) and found him to be extremely knowledgeable and caring throughout the whole process. I had two titanium bars installed and my surgery involved very little pain. I attribute the lack of pain to Dr. LoSasso's skill in bending the bars. He is simply fantastic! My pain level for the first week after surgery was only a 4 (out of 10). I found that by listening to Dr. LoSasso and doing everything he said, like walking regularly and using the spirometer, that my recovery went smoother. I took a month off from work and spent all of that time in the San Diego area recovering. Now that I am five weeks post-op, I am completely off all medication and my pain level is between 0 and 3. The more I walk, the more I practice my posture and the more I do the spirometer, the lower my pain. The bottom line is that if you are looking for an exceptional surgeon, I highly recommend Dr. LoSasso. Many thanks to the West Coast Center of Excellence!

Nuss procedure

I am 36 years old and had my nuss procedure done by Dr Barry Lo Sasso on 11/6/15 at Sharp Memorial Hospital. I found Dr Lo Sasso on the internet, it was very difficult looking for a surgeon that would do this surgery on me due to my age. I traveled from Monterey Ca to San Diego to meet with Dr Lo Sasso, his staff was excellent all were very nice and explained things throughly.. I'm extremely grateful I found Dr Lo Sasso I felt I was in the best of care. The surgery itself was extremely painful. I did not want this surgery for cosmetics reasons, I was having extremely bad shortness of breathing and heart palpitations along with being very fatigue. My heart was compressed and shifted to the left. I'm now 3 months post and feel a lot better but still can't sleep on my sides or stomach for long periods of time. I have numbness in my breast and back pain but nothing compared to the last couple months. I was off work for 2 months. The office staff were so caring and did no hesitate to give me all the time I needed off to recover. I would definitely recommend dr Barry Lo Sasso to anyone wanting this procedure done. He is the best in the west coast! I felt 100% comfortable while under his care.

BEST NUSS DOCTOR OUT THERE!!!

I had the Nuss procedure in 2008. My experience, though a pretty big surgery, was great. The ladies in the office are always helpful and have wonderful positive attitude. Jackie was easy to get a hold of if I had any questions. Dr. LoSasso is an amazing surgeon and I would and have recommend may people with pectus to his office.
I have had my bar out now for almost a year and half (out in 01/2011). My body looks great and I am back doing all my extreme sports; rock climbing, scuba diving, body boarding, backpacking. You name it and I do it and I can BREATH!!!
I've never felt better or strong than after the Nuss Procedure. This surgery changed my life!
You are in great hands with this doctor!!! Thank you West Coast Center of Excellence I don't know where I would be without you!

Dr. LoSasso and Jacke Hurley, Pectus Coordinator are the best in the country

I wanted the best surgeon possible for my son's Pectus Excavatum. After doing my research, I contacted 3 other other hospitals, visited one other, and consulted with 4 surgeons, we found Dr. LoSasso to be the best in the USA. He trained directly with Dr. Nuss. He has performed more Nuss Procedures than anyone in the country. His success rates beat the national average - no bar migrations in the 650 Nuss Procedures he has performed over the past 13 years. My sons chest came out absolutely beautifully - Dr. LoSasso has an art for bending the bar. Another plus is that Dr. LoSasso has a Pectus Coordinator Jackie Hurley. She was there for me during every stage of the process and made everything stress free for us. Any worries I had, I would call Jackie and she would answer my questions and I would feel better. We found out my son had pectus the end of May and he was operated on two months later - this July! Jackie organized everything for us. Another strong point in my decision was Dr. LoSasso created an amazing team, and he is a West Coast Center of Excellence. (The first to be designated after CHKD) What does that mean: He personally trained the hospital nurses to properly care for pectus patients, they knew how to take care of my son. He trained the pain management team for a nearly pain free experience (The kept his pain under control), the nurses even gave my son healing touch. In addition, Rady's is a brand new facility, it is absolutely beautiful, there is couch/bed that I slept in right in his room, and directly across the street is brand new 5 star Ronald McDonald house where Jackie arranged my families accommodations. We are from the East Coast, and flew to beautiful San Diego, and arranged a vacation around the surgery. I was not nervous while my son was having surgery, I was excited. I had trust in Dr. LoSasso and knew my son was in the best hands possible. We sat in a courtyard outside Rady's while our son was having surgery and I thought I was in paradise - sea grasses, palm trees, 74% weather, no grey sky's in San Diego.- location, location, location. I couldn't have planned it any better. Would we choose Dr. LoSasso again? Absolutely. He changed my son's life. I wouldn't think twice of recommending Dr. LoSasso and Jackie - you are in the best hands possible, so you can feel confident in the outcome and feel safe and relaxed going through the process. We are now looking forward to spending 3 more summers in San Diego for the follow ups. Don't be afraid, get the surgery. My son walked into the hospital and 5 hours later he had a brand new amazing chest. We met three other patients while we were at Rady's and they had a very positive experience with Dr. LoSasso and Jackie also.
