TOPIC: New Pain 3 Weeks Post Nuss

New Pain 3 Weeks Post Nuss 5 months 4 days ago #8193

My 14 year old son had the Nuss Procedure on 12/21. Today is 3 weeks. He was pretty amazing in early recovery. After day 4, pain was managed with Tylenol and ibuprofen and he hasn’t had either of those for a week. Until 2 days ago. A classmate “bear hugged” him from behind and then sort of pushed/rotated his shoulders as if he was trying to fold him in half down the middle. Since then, my son has had increased pain. He differentiates between “sore” and “pain.” I called his surgeon and they said bar displacement takes a significant force, greater than that of horseplay from another teen. They said it’s likely nerve irritation. I’m frustrated because it’s set him back at least a week and a half. He was just doing so well. Any tips or advice? We’re back to ibuprofen, Tylenol and ice packs which seem to keep it at a tolerable level. Has anyone had bar displacement that can describe the feeling?
